 Urantia BROTHERHOOD BULLETIN
Jan. 25, 1971

We know many of you are hoping we will have another summer study session this year and would like to know early so that you can make your plans. We do expect to have. one. The subject matter and date have not been definitely set, but there will probably be a two-day session early in august. More definite information will be given in the April Bulletin.

The Urantia Brotherhood School will resume its Wednesday night seminars on Mar 31, which will run for 9 weeks. Dean Alvin L. Kulieke will be conducting these classes on "Morontia Life." No academic credit is given, but the discussions are very informative and interesting, and everybody is welcome.

The First Urantia Society of Los Angeles has elected new officers and they are Robert Steen, President; Mrs. Dorothy James Elder, Vice President; Mrs. Julia K. Fenderson, Secretary; and Mrs. Helen Steen, Treasurer.

And we are about to charter another society. This one is to be Houston, Texas on January 31. Congratulations to this society. We will tell you about it in the April Bulletin.

Although the official Foundation index for the Urantia Book has not yet been com-pleted, we are very fortunate that one of our long-time members, Clyde Bedell, spent thousands of hours and a great deal of effort compiling his personal Concordex, which will be off the press within the next week or two. This has been a 4-year labor of love and it is planned for service, not profit. The book, over half as thick as the Urantia Book, containing over 350 pages, is case-bound in an enduring cover. There are over 50,000 page references which will help you find passages that you have "lost" temporarily..

Some of you have had copies of the previous smaller "Personal References" by Clyde Bedell. This newer one is so much more comprehensive and thorough that we ,i(, are sure you will find it very helpful,. The price of the Concordex is $8.50 and mailing charge is 25 cents. Your check for $8.75 should be made to the Urantia Foundation and sent to this office.

Dissemination of the Urantia Book is growing very rapidly. During 1969, 2,822 books were sold; during 1970, 4,444 books were sold. Over 19,000 are abroad in the world which represents the first edition and the second printing. The third printing will be ready late in February or early March.

It is important that we that we periodically look carefully at our organizations and just how they function as the Urantia teachings are reaching more and more people.

We must remember that Jesus was forced to use the word Kingdom for his concept of a Brotherhood. Our Urantia Brotherhood is the physical and social organization that is the literal representation of the spiritual brotherhood of men that is derived from the realization that the Universal Father is the actual Father of all Adjuster indwelt mortals.

We believe our organization is the best means of promoting the Urantia Book. We also believe it is bringing men closer to God and is helping spiritually hungry men to come to a realization of sonship with God.

Its purposes are well expressed in Article II of the Constitution:

"The purposes of Urantia BROTHERHOOD are the study and dissemination -of the teachings of the Urantia Book; the promotion, improvement, and expansion among the peoples of the world of the comprehension and understanding of Cosmology and the relation of the planet on which we live to the Universe, of the genesis and destiny of man and his relation to God, and of the teachings of Jesus Christ; and the inculcation and encouragement of the realization and appreciation of the Fatherhood of God and the Brotherhood of Man -- in order to increase and enhance the comfort, happiness, and well-being of Man, as an individual and as a member of society, by fostering a religion, a philosophy, and a cosmology which are commensurate with Man's intellectual and cultural development, through the medium of fraternal association, ever obedient and subservient to the laws of this country and of all countries wherein Urantia BROTHERHOOD may extend.

An organization with these purposes any spiritually-minded individual can accept and actively support. The preaching of this gospel of the kingdom will some day bring to all nations a new and unbelievable liberation, intellectual freedom, and religious liberty.

Remember you are commissioned to preach this gospel of the kingdom -- the supreme desire to do the Father's will coupled with the supreme joy of the faith realization of sonship with God.

"Jesus led men to feel at home in the world; he delivered them from the slavery of taboo and taught them that the world was not fundamentally evil. He did not long to escape from his earthly life; he mastered a technique of acceptably doing the Father's will while in the flesh. He attained an idealistic religious life in the very midst of a realistic world. Jesus did not share Paul's pessimistic view of humankind. The Master looked upon men as the sons of God and foresaw a magnificent and eternal future for those who chose survival. He was not a moral skeptic; he viewed man positively, not negatively. He saw most men as weak rather than wicked, more distraught than depraved. But no matter what their status, they were all God's children and his brethren." P. 2093
