Memo from Christy to Societies regarding
original oath of secrecy

TO:  Urantia SOCIETIES
FROM:  E. L. Christensen, President, Urantia Brotherhood
DATE:  November 11th, 1964

On October 2nd, 1955, at the request of the Revelatory Commission, a meeting was called in Chicago by the leaders of the old Forum, at which we asked all members to reaffirm their pledge of secrecy regarding information given them about the manner of receiving the subject matter of The Urantia Book, etc.  At that time, the group present signed the following pledge:

“I hereby reaffirm my pledge of secrecy regarding information imparted to me about the manner of receiving the subject matter of The Urantia Book, and the channel through which it came.”

Cards containing this pledge were sent for signature to Forum members who had moved out of Chicago.  All of these signed cards are in our possession.

I feel that the time has come to remind the “old-timers” of this pledge of secrecy, and to strongly urge them not to discuss with newer members in the various groups, information imparted to them in the old days.  It is the hope and prayer of the Revelatory Commission that we will abide by their request for secrecy, that we will be trustworthy, and it is also their hope that some day the book will stand by itself without any reference to origin, etc.

The stories that are being told become so very garbled with the passing of time that they seem to have very little relation to the original version.

I would appreciate it if you would read this memorandum to the old Forumites connected with your Society.
